Meet Macho!
Dog faces flames to save sleeping teen
Single mom Nichole Evans received a call in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve that she refers to as the worst experience of her life. It was a Facetime call from her 17-year-old son Griffin, reporting that the second story of their home was engulfed in flames. Just minutes before, Griffin was sound asleep in his room directly below.
Luckily, Griffin wasn't alone.
Their dog, Macho, sensing the danger, set out to alert Griffin. Macho raced to Griffin's room, where the teen was sleeping soundly. Macho barked repeatedly and, when he couldn't get a response, nipped at Griffin, ultimately waking him. The two were then able to escape the danger and wait safely outside for the fire department while Nicole watched helplessly from her phone.
"It was probably the worst experience of my life to not be with the person you love the most while something's happening to them that you can't do something about," says Nicole.
Griffin had a guardian that night, and it came in the form of their beloved pet companion. Macho's intelligence, loyalty, and instinct are credited with saving Griffin's life, as recognized by Nicole, who remarks, "If it wasn't for Macho, I don't know what would have happened."
The family has Macho to thank for assisting in getting Griffin to safety. Macho's actions are incredible and inspiring, capturing the true essence of what it means to be an animal superhero. Macho is worthy of our honor as a pet who's done an extraordinarily good deed!
We're proud to recognize Macho as our My Pet's Good Deed Campaign featured winner this month. If you’d like to do a good deed and help the Evans family, join their community of donors by visiting the GoFundMe page organized in their name.
